Chocolat oatmeal squares

1 C butter or marg

2 ½ C flour

2 C packed brown sugar

2 eggs

2 t vanilla

1 t baking soda

3 C oats

1 1/3 C chocolate chips

2 T butter

2 t vanilla

½ C walnuts

1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

-Beat 1 C butter at high speed for 30 seconds.

-Add ½ flour, brown sugar, eggs, 2 t vanilla, and baking soda, beat till combined.

-Mix in remaining flour and oats.

-Press 2/3 oat mixture in bottom of jelly roll pan.

-In saucepan cook over low heat; choc chips, milk, and 2 T butter till chips are melted, stirring occasionally.

-Stir in 2 t vanilla and walnuts. (If you want to have some without walnuts, just keep the walnuts out and sprinkle them over part of the chocolate mixture right after it’s poured.)

-Spread choc mixture over top of oat mixture. Using fingers dot remaining oat mix over chocolate. (I actually take a little in my hand and flatten it out then lay it on top of the oat mix so it’s not quite so bumpy but either way works) You want it to look “marbled” with some of the choc mix showing through.

Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until top is lightly brown.
